Things about being an Empath some people do not understand.
By: Kim Blue
If you are an empath or HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) you absolutely must establish solid boundaries of protection around yourself and your environment. Many Empaths and HSP’s find themselves drained in their physical or mental health. They become very introverted or disconnected from the outside world in order to recover. It is truly necessary for the empath or HSP to protect themselves while being the authentic person they were gifted to be. They actually give 100% if not more of all that they are and all that have to an exhaustive state. What we all need to understand is that the Empath / HSP has been given gifts that 90% of the population was not trusted with. So when you find yourself with one of these amazing gifted people, know that you are safe with them. They can be trusted. They can truly heal others. They know more than they can share. They see gifts, talents and beauty in people, animals, nature and things. They are able to see peoples happiness, sadness, hurt, shame, fear, anxiety, hope and faith - unfortunately sometimes they are able to see what that person can’t see for themselves. They are rare. They are a true gift.
Understanding an Empath or HSP
Your mood & energy levels change when you are around other people
An empath / HSP can bring light to a dark room through their ability to bring peace.
Because empaths absorb other peoples’ energy, they can soon feel depleted – or energized – depending on who happens to be around. If you tend to feel uplifted or exhausted after just a few minutes around other people depending on the vibe of the room, you may well be an empath. Empaths pick up physical symptoms along with emotions. For instance, if an empath spends time with an anxious, stressed individual who suffers from tension headaches and back pain, they might develop the same symptoms. If an empath spends time around those who love life and embrace others gifts and talents they will feel completely at peace.
Your senses pick up on subtle environmental cues
All empaths are highly sensitive people (HSPs).
As a HSP, an empath, the sense of smell is heightened, the ability to hear sounds that others can’t, and feel textures that may go unnoticed by others.
The HSP can also detect lies, hurts, chaos and drama in their surroundings. For example, if an HSP senses someone is hurting, being hurt they will zone in on that person.
You love spending time in nature or alone
Most empaths report that spending time outdoors or alone allows them to be at peace, but the natural world is especially soothing for an empath. Quiet beaches, parks, woods, and lakes are probably your idea of heaven.
Empaths enjoy being near water; it seems to hold cleansing properties that rebalance their delicate energy levels.
You have a great appreciation of the beautiful people and things in life
All empaths appreciate the beauty in people, animals, nature and things that surround them, so it’s unsurprising that empaths are drawn to creative activities of all kinds. You probably find yourself moved to tears by sad music, someones heart breaking, the emotional vibe of a room full of people, fear in an animal or awed by a dramatic painting or a field of flowers. Many artists show empath traits.
You find it easy to interact with people and animals
Your gentle, sensitive personality and desire to nurture others attracts animals and people.
If you are a parent, dog parent, with a partner, your children or friends will never doubt your love for them, and you will feel driven to protect your family at all costs.
You are not competitive, jealous or envious. You would rather lift up others and go without than win at any cost.
Empaths see all human beings as equal, and they don’t often like to beat others, whether at work or in their personal lives. They choose to lift others up, be supportive, help others see what they see and be interactive in others lives. For example, as an empath, you prefer to work together with colleagues to bring a project to fruition rather than see them as competitors for a promotion. An empath would prefer to include everyone in the win!
You seem to attract needy or toxic people who drain your energy levels
Empaths are true healers. They tend to attract those who are in need or hurting. They also unfortunately attract toxic people who will severely drain them if they are not careful or do not establish boundaries. Please know that as an empath or HSP this does not mean there is something wrong with you for attracting these people. You were given a gift to see, hear, smell and heal. You must install boundaries to protect yourself.
